Hi Lily. Given that you have a previous history of breathing problems although you don't state what type of problem, it is advisable that you have it assessed by a doctor. Young girls do sometimes suffer with a condition known as Tietze syndrome where there is inflammation of the joints between the ribs and sternum. However, we cannot say for sure that this is the problem and you should seek medical advice.

Hi Laura

Costochondritis is common in teens and young adults. Hopefully your doctor has done a chest x-ray and other tests if necessary to exclude other conditions. Ice packs will help with inflammation and it is a temporary measure until the area heals. Try not to move too much or carry out the movements that cause the most amount of discomfort. Anti-inflammatory drugs are also helpful but speak to your doctor about this first. If it is persisting, you will definitely need to undergo further tests.

Hi Jay

The gut becomes very active after eating with secretion of enzymes and muscle contractions to churn and move the food. Pain, however, should prompt you to seek medical attention. Read this article on LLQ Abdominal Pain.

I used to have pain just like you are describing and I had an upper GI done and no ulcer. I found a tea you can drink in my herbal book called "red clover" and drank the recommended amounts for about 3-6 months and the pain went away. I drink the tea every time my stomach is upset and it helps.

Hi Rudy,

I'm wondering if you ever found an answer to your health concern? For about 2 months now I'm experiencing exactly what you describe! However, my pain is located further away from the sternum, but still under the right ribcage, so unfortunately I'm doubting it's popping sternum. (Yet I do feel the 'ligaments' moving around when I apply pressure.) I hope you feel better!
