There is no disadvantage because the stem cells are taken from the umbilical cord after the baby is born. So it does not put your baby at risk. The cost factor could however be seen as a disadvantage. As you can see in the article above, there are various advantages, most of which are currently limited to blood disorders. Technology in this field is rapidly developing and now that partially differentiated stem cells can be reversed into undifferentiated cells (induced pluripotent stem cells), there is the possibility that it can be converted into any other type of cell. Basically it is an affordability issue. If you can afford it then store it. New applications are developing at a rapid rate.]]></description>
