Diuretics – drugs that remove fluid from the body – are probably the only effective treatment for fluid retention. Doctor can prescribe the pills and your mother can take them at home.

Strong green tea can also help in removing fluid from the body but I can’t tell how effective this will be.

If she has pains and diarrhea she can use morphine. This can cause nausea and constipation as a side effect so a low dose should be tried first – if needed.

If she has nausea you can try to find these pills without prescription:
“Ipecac” or “Nux Vomica”.
