Hi Kim. We cannot tell you for sure what may be causing this burning sensation and dry skin. You will need to see a doctor who can assess your skin lesions and provide you with more definitive answers. Tests may be necessary to confirm the underlying cause. However, one factor that you may want to consider is contact dermatitis. Some substance on your bed could be irritating your skin. This is just one possibility but there may be other conditions that also need to be considered. I put some cream on it the dry skin was gone but now I have this burning skin sensation that now moving all over my back and stomach. What is it?

There have been no visible markings or rashes except occasional redness. It usually take place on the underside of my upper arm or forearm. As far as I know, I hadn’t been in contact with any allergens. What do you think it could be?

Hi Werknemerful. The pressure you are applying on your arm when feeling it appears to be eliciting these symptoms. Some people do have more sensitive skin but burning and prickling with touch may be a sign of some underlying problem. It is very likely related to a nerve problem and you could have it assessed by a doctor.

Hi Rachel. Since you have undergone several diagnostic investigations, many possible conditions have been excluded. The fact that you are responding to hydroxyzine does point towards an allergy-related condition. However, hydroxyzine may only be providing symptomatic relief and the underlying cause has to be identified and treated accordingly. Speak to your family doctor again and possibly consult with a dermatologist.

Dudley, I had something similar. Then a few years later, I started getting angioedema and sores on arms and legs. Symptomatic treatment didn’t help. Further tests showed dairy allergy + an allergy to candesartan. Stopping dairy and changing bp medication has definitely helped, though not totally resolved the issue. Have you tested for food allergies? Good luck anyway…

I ask family members to scratch the area and I feel NOTHING. I use a back scratcher and I feel numbness or nothing. I do feel the pressure. In fact, that is sometimes the only relief I get, when enough pressure is put on the spot. Topical lotions do not help; just the pressure of a thumb or golf ball pushed directly on the location. I feel this ticklish, feathery, electric, hot-match sensation ALL THE TIME! Sometimes it bumps up a few notches and I feel like a hot vibrating needle is boring into my spine. My daughter suggests acupuncture. I am afraid to ask my doctor because I don’t want to sound like a kooky hypochondriac.

It starts at my ears and they feel as though they’re on fire, and it moves to my face and neck and my skin begins to sting to the point where I’m in serious pain. The first time the redness and burning traveled down my arms and whole upper body but this last time it was only my face & neck with my throat feeling a little tight. Both times were immediately after/during a meal but I hadn’t eaten anything I’ve never tried before. Benadryl helped but I want to understand if there’s anything I can do to prevent it because the pain is excruciating and I don’t always have Benadryl on hand.
