Hi Carolyn. You should discuss this with your doctor immediately. The heart muscle that has died as a result of your heart attack cannot heal, ever. While many people complain of some light pain upon exertion after a heart attack, it needs to be reassessed because this could be indicative of another blockage and damage to healthy tissue. Speak to your doctor ASAP.

Thank you for the response. I am continually having arm pain and some chest discomfort. It has been 3 and half weeks since my heart attack, Is this part of the healing process?

Hi Carolyn. A heart attack means a portion of the muscular wall of the heart is dead. Opening up the 100% blockage may not serve any purpose for that portion that is already dead. The other parts of the heart muscle that were being supplied by that artery may still be alive because of collateral blood supplies. Depending on the location of the blockage and various other factors, it may be worth opening up the blockage or bypassing it to ensure that the remaining tissue usually supplied by that blocked artery can continue living beyond just the blood from collateral arteries. This is highly simplistic explanation based on your question. Always follow the advice of your cardiologist, and if you are uncertain then get a second opinion.
