In reply to gasdeboyne.

Kindly read the extract from http://www.bmtnews.org/newsletter/75/1
"Another option for patients with multiple myeloma is an allogeneic transplant which uses stem cells from a donor, instead of the patient's own stem cells. The advantages of an allogeneic transplant are that the donor's immune cells can help eliminate myeloma cells, and when successful, it can prolong survival or even cure some patients."

In my articles, I have clearly mentioned multiple myeloma as one of the most devastating cancers and that it is almost invariably fatal. I have used clear words like "seems to offer cure" which is because I have read several journals and medical publications with clinical trials and results. Kindly try, not to discourage readers with negative comments regarding the article. I am sorry for not mentioning references initially but with the plethora of text and experience that we gain from practicing medicine that it becomes really difficult to quote the source for all our facts.
And yes .. I hope now u can read the rest of the article !

Be wary of this article. Aside from the typo's any article suggesting that SCT's seem to offer a complete cure, are raising expectations and are not what patients get told when they are going through the treatment. It is more correct to say that they are likely to give a longer remission, but even that depends on the type of SCT that someone has.

I haven't even read further than that as it seems pointless!
