Hi there. My scalp, or just under it rather, is tender and sore to touch, possibly slightly swollen too, like a bad bruise (though it's not bruised), and I can lightly feel it when I raise my eyebrows, which raises the scalp. The painfullness starts just behind my RT ear and travels in a wavy path about a thumbs wideth, up the RT side of head, about 4" up, and stops near the top of my head. It's painful when touched. I don't feel anything odd, except a slight vision change, just a light extra sensitive to bright light. Did have an odd headache for a day when AI first noticed it 3 days ago. However, not feeling any worse. It's like I got punched in the side of my head but I've not bumped it or anything. I've no other health conditions or problems. I don't feel it's an er visit but still, is there an X-ray I can get for the side of my head? Urgent care or? And can't afford a $500-1000 Ct scan.

Thanks.

Hi Jackie. It would be a good idea to first start off by consulting with a doctor. These symptoms could be due to many different types of scalp conditions. It could be a bacterial infection like folliculitis, a fungal infection or maybe it is not an infection but an allergic reaction (contact dermatitis) to some substance in your shampoo or other hair care products. Only once you know exactly what the cause is can you consider the treatment options. Your doctor will be able to advise you accordingly about lifestyle changes as well as medication.
