If it is not growing in size, painful or associated with other serious symptoms then it may not be a cause for immediate concern. However, it is difficult to say for sure. Rather be safe than sorry and have it checked by a doctor.

Hi Jerry. If you have not already done so then it is advisable that you see a cardiologist and have a full cardiovascular examination. The ER will only do those tests that can confirm that it is a heart problem or not. Hopefully you did follow up with a doctor after your ER visits. The lack of results now does not mean that it is definitely not a heart condition. A cardiologist will able to advise you further.

The question at this point is whether the mass is related to the accident or not. 6 months have passed and it is very possible that there is an entirely different cause of this mass at this point in time. The chest x-ray at the time may not have revealed any abnormality, and either way the focus at that time wa on a possible fracture. Speak to your family doctor about thsi problem. You may have to undergo further investigations, be it another chest x-ray, MRI and so on, to identify the underlying problem. Only once diagnose can it be appropriately treated.

Given the swelling, it could very well be a problem with the chest wall but there is always the concern of it being due to one of the vital organs in the chest cavity. The pain may be one of the first symptoms and if you leave this unattended it could progress further. Please consult with your doctor as soon as possible.

Hi Samantha. We have to advise that you see a medical doctor as soon as possible. Given your family history of breast cancer, it is imperative that you have it assessed. It may not be as serious as cancer but there is no way of knowing for sure without further investigation. One of the concerns here is that this is an enlarged lymph node. While enlarged lymph nodes can occur with infections and other diseases it may also arise with breast cancer. As you can see these are largely “what if’s” and without a proper diagnosis it will be difficult to say what your next step should be.
